Sister Ruth Stuckel, CSJ

Sister Ruth Stuckel was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1954 and was received into the novitiate in 1955 as Sister Helen Oliver, later returning to her baptismal name. She received a bachelor’s degree philosophy from Fontbonne College (now University), St. Louis in 1964 and master’s degrees in philosophy from Fordham University, Bronx, New York in 1966, University of Exeter, Exeter England in 1971 and the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas in 1973

Sister Ruth taught in St. Louis at St. Agnes Grade School in 1957-59 and at Most Holy Rosary Grade School in 1959-60. She taught at St. Joseph Grade School in West DePere, Wisconsin in 1960-61 and returned to St. Louis to teach at St. Edward Grade School in 1961-64.

She taught at Avila College (now University), Kansas City, Missouri in 1966-68; 1972-1977; and 1978-80. She was a teaching assistant at the University of Kansas in Lawrence 1968-70 and 1971-72 and at the University of Exeter England, 1970-71.

She was a faculty member at Mt. St. Mary College in Los Angeles, California 1977-78.

In the 1980s she served her CSJ community as Regional Superior and then as Provincial Councilor at the St. Joseph Pronvicialate in St. Louis for eight years.

She returned to Avila College (now University) in 1988 and was the associate professor of philosophy until 2008 when she became Professor Emerita of philosophy.

She retired in 2010 and continues to serve her CSJ community as a volunteer and as the Spiritual Director of Mission Advancement for the Kansas City Mission Advancement Office.
