Sister Richard Joseph Sagadin, CSJ

Sister Richard Joseph Sagadin, baptized Romon, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1949 and was received into the novitiate in 1950. She received a bachelor’s degree in history/mathematics from Fontbonne College (now University), St. Louis in 1963, and a master’s degree in elementary education/counseling/guidance from St. Louis University in 1971.

Sister Richard Joseph taught at numerous schools in the Archdiocese of St. Louis in the 1950s and 1960s: St. Anthony Grade School, St. Leo School, St. Vincent School, St. Luke School, Holy Rosary School and St. Matthew School.

Moving to Denver, she taught at St. Catherine of Siena Grade School, followed by Our Lady of the Americas Grade School in Kansas City, Missouri, and at St. Louis Grade School in Englewood, Colorado.

Since 1972, Sister Richard Joseph has served in the Archdiocese of Chicago. She taught and was the unit supervisor at St. Joseph Carondelet Child Center from 1972 to 1985. After a sabbatical, she taught at St. Rene Grade School for 13 years.

She continued her time in the classroom as a substitute teacher in the Chicago area from 2003 until her full retirement in 2024.

Sister Richard Joseph enjoyed her time living on the Oneida reservation and is proud of her Native American heritage.
