70th Jubilarian
Sister Mary Sharon Jones, baptized Mary Catherine, was born in Joplin, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1954 and was received into the novitiate in 1955. She received a bachelor’s degree in pharmacology from Kansas City College of Pharmacy and Natural Sciences in 1960.
Sister Mary Sharon Jones began her ministry as a staff pharmacist in Kansas City at the former St. Joseph Hospital (now St. Joseph Medical Center) when it was located on Linwood and Prospect from 1960-61. She then became the Pharmacy Director at the former St. Joseph Hospital (now SSM St. Clare Health Center) in Kirkwood, Missouri from 1961-65 and at the St. Joseph Community Hospital in Hancock, Michigan from 1965-72.
She served as pharmacist at the former Nazareth Convent (now Nazareth Living Center) in St. Louis from 1972-80. Moving to Alabama in 1980, she was an outreach program worker for Grace Busse Rural Clinic in Pine Apple, Georgia and then a pharmacist/social service counselor at Good Samaritan Hospital in Selma, Alabama.
In 1983, she served 11 years in pastoral ministry and family care at Cardinal Ritter Senior Services in St. Louis and from 1994-96 devoted her time to family care.
In 1996, she served as a residential care assistant at Nazareth Living Center until 1998 and served CSJ Care Home Services until 2008, both in St. Louis.
She volunteered for her CSJ Community at the Carondelet Motherhouse in St. Louis from 2008 to 2017. Since 2017, she has resided at Nazareth Living Center where she carries out her mission of prayer and presence.
