Sister Marilyn Peot, CSJ

Sister Marilyn Peot was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1954 and made her religious profession in 1957. She received her bachelor’s degree in English from Fontbonne College (now University), St. Louis in 1964 and a master’s degree in education/administration from St. Louis University in 1970.

Sister Marilyn began teaching in St. Louis at St. Agnes School 1957-1959 and St. Margaret of Scotland 1959-1964. She spent the next year at St. Rose of Lima 1964-1965 in Houston, Texas.

She then began her 50 years of service to the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Missouri. From 1965 to 1967, she served as administrator and teacher at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Redemptorist) School. She served the next 9 years in St. Elizabeth Parish, 5 years as administrator of the school and then continued the next 4 years in St. Elizabeth Parish as pastoral assistant and director of the Medaille House of Prayer.

In 1976 until 1979, she began her full-time direct spiritual ministry at Immacolata Jesuit Retreat House in Liberty, Missouri. It was during these years that she initiated the Lay Association with the Sisters of St. Joseph in Kansas City. From 1979-1983, she continued her ministry in Kansas City, while living one year at St. Teresa’s Academy convent and 3 years living at the Benedictine Monastery.

From 1983-1991, she helped initiate and serve on the staff of the Franciscan Prayer Center in Independence, Missouri. In 1991, she served in a part-time capacity in St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Gladstone, Missouri while continuing to hold retreats and workshops, developing small communities in other parishes of the diocese.

During her years in Kansas City, she served on the Boards of St. Joseph Hospital and St. Teresa’s Academy and on the St. Louis Province Vocation/Formation Team.

Sister Marilyn retired in 2011 and continued her part-time ministry of spiritual companioning and directed retreats.

Moving to St. Louis in 2024, Sister Marilyn has resided at Nazareth Living Center carrying out her mission of prayer and presence.

Her interests include theater, classical music, outdoor activities, study—and celebrating life!
