60th Jubilarian
Sister Laura Ann Gruber was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1964 and was received into the novitiate in 1965. She received a bachelor’s degree in deaf education from Fontbonne College (now University) in 1969 and a master’s in teaching K-8 from Indiana State University in 1972.
Sister Laura has served her entire ministry in St. Louis in deaf education at St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf (now St. Joseph Hearing + Speech). She began in 1968 when the Institute was located in University City and continued at the Institute when it moved to Chesterfield in 1997.
Sister retired in 2014 and volunteers for her CSJ community at the St. Joseph Provincial House in the Finance Office and as a tour guide of the Carondelet Motherhouse.
