Sister Joan Lacey, CSJ

Sister Joan Lacey was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1954 and was received into the novitiate in 1955 as Sister Mary Michele, later returning to her baptismal name. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Fontbonne College (now University) in St. Louis in 1965 and a master’s as a reading specialist from Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1972.

Sister Joan served 59 years in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. She began teaching at St. Louis Cathedral Grade School 1957-61; St. Margaret of Scotland Grade School 1961-65; and Immacolata Grade School 1965-66.

She taught in Valdosta, Georgia at St. John the Evangelist Grade School in 1966-71.

Returning to St. Louis, she taught at St. Rita Grad School 1971-77; St. Thomas The Apostle Grade School 1977-86; and St. Sabina Grade School 1986 – 2004.

She was the secretary at St. Sabine Parish in Florissant from 2004-2010. Sister Joan retired in 2012 and is in volunteer ministry.
