60th Jubilarian
Sister Joan Kaucher was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1964 after graduating from St. Anthony High School. She was received into the novitiate in 1965 and received the name S. John Catherine, later she returned to her baptismal name. She received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Fontbonne College, (now University) in 1969.
She began her ministry of teaching in Denver, Colorado at St. James Grade School from 1969-1973. She then taught at Sts. John and James School in Ferguson, Missouri from 1973-1974.
Her next mission was teaching intermediate grades at St. Patrick School in Rolla, Missouri from 1974-1976. In 1976 she entered a new field of ministry at Nazareth Convent (now Nazareth Living Center). She was the Director of Voluntary Services from 1976 -1979. Returning to teaching in 1979, she taught eleven years at St. Francis de Sales School in Denver, Colorado. In 1990 she became the assistant principal and teacher at St. Mary on the Hill School in Augusta, Georgia for the next five years. In 1995 she took on a new ministry at Holy Cross Parish in Champaign, Illinois. Sister served as the Director of Religious Education for the next seven years.
In 2002 she returned to St. Louis and served her CSJ community as part of the Sister Care Staff at Nazareth Living Center. In 2020 she retired from that position because of poor eyesight.
Today Sister Joan continues to do volunteer work.
