Sister Elizabeth "Betty" Conrad, CSJ

Sister Elizabeth Conrad was born in Denver, Colorado. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1954 and was received into the novitiate in 1955 as Sister Mary Ralph, later returning to her baptismal name. She received a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the University of Colorado in 1951 and a master’s degree in Spanish from St. Louis University in 1968.

Sister Betty began her service teaching at St. Joseph’s Academy in Green Bay, Wisconsin from 1957 to 1968. She taught at St. Joseph High School in Atlanta, Georgia for the next two years.

In 1970, she began 55 years of service in Peru. She was a faculty member at the University of Santa Maria in Arequipa, Peru. She served as a laboratory technician in Moho, Department of Puno, Peru and then 13 years as a religious education associate at the Catechetical Center in Lima.

She returned to St. Louis for two years and was a resident at Emmaus House.

Returning to Peru in 1989 she served as a pastoral agent at San Jose de Lourdes in Cajamarca and served at Posta (Clinic) de Pilar in Arequipa.

In 1994 she began over 30 years of service in administration for the Vice Province of Peru first as secretary then as secretary/treasurer. She now serves as a support staff to the treasurer.

Sister Betty has served 55 years in Peru.
