70th Jubilarian
Sister Ann Schorfheide, was born in Kansas City, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1954 and was received into the novitiate in 1955 as S. Mary Helene, later returning to her baptismal name. She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mt. St. Mary College, Los Angeles, California in 1957; a master’s in nursing-community health from the University of California, Los Angeles and a doctorate in adult education/family studies from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas in 1985.
She began as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital (now St. Joseph Medical Center) when it was located on Linwood & Prospect in Kansas City, Missouri in 1957.
She served as head nurse at St. Joseph Hospital (now SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, Missouri) in 1957 In 1964 she taught for seven years as nurse educator at Avila College (now University) in Kansas City, Missouri.
She was a student in 1971, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi studying health/geriatric care. She served as a nurse midwife at the University of Mississippi, Earl K. Long Memorial Hospital located in Louisiana in 1972 and then 1973-79 at TS Gatewood, MD, PC in Americus, Georgia.
She served as an associate professor in nursing in 1979 at the University of South Carolina School of Nursing and then from 1980-82 at the Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing in Athens, Georgia.
In 1982, she served in the Kansas City area. She was an assistant professor of nursing and in 1988 an associate professor of nursing at the University of School of Nursing in Kansas City, Kansas. Sister Ann retired in 2004.
Since 2017 has resided at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis where she carries out her mission of prayer and presence.
Sister Ann Schorfheid was listed as Outstanding Young Woman in 1968.
