70th Jubilee
Sister Monica Marie Kleffner, baptized Veronica, was born in Brinktown, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1955 and was received into the novitiate in 1956. She received a bachelor’s degree in home economics from Fontbonne College in 1965 and a master’s degree as a reading specialist for the University of Missouri, Kansas City in 1974.
Sister Monica began teaching in St. Louis in the 1960s. She was an elementary teacher at St. Anthony of Padua Grade School (1960-64); St. Jude Grade School (1964-66) and St. Louis Cathedral Grade School (1966-75).
After a year of family care, Sister Monica returned to education in 1976. She was principal at St. Anthony Grade School in Atlanta, Georgia, in1977. For the next 11 years, she served in L’Anse, Michigan, at Sacred Heart Grade School as both teacher and principal.
In 1993, she returned to St. Louis and served her CSJ community as the provincialate secretary until 2002. She then served at Nazareth Living Center in community service for two years and as the transportation coordinator for nine years.
Since her retirement in 2013, she has served in volunteer ministry.
