Sister Jeanne Janssen

Born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Sister Jeanne Janssen entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet from Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 1965 and was received into the novitiate in 1966. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Fontbonne College and a master’s degree in English literature from the University of the Sacred Heart, Tokyo, Japan, in 1980.

After teaching at St. Pius X High School in Atlanta, Georgia, Sister Jeanne began her many years as a missionary. From 1972 to 2003 (with an occasional interval in the United States), Sister Jeanne served in Japan, the Philippines and China. During those years, she was a student of language, an educator at both secondary and tertiary levels, a pastoral minister, and in community service.

Returning to the United States in 2003, she began work with the Missionary Society of St. Columban in Bellevue, Nebraska, where, until 2011, she was the director of mission education and communications as well as the editor of Columban Mission Magazine.

In 2012, she began working at Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri, as a student support specialist and teacher of ESL. Though she retired formally from Avila in 2017, she currently ministers there in the capacity of academic success coach.
