Sister Jean Junak

Sister Jean Junak was born in Ishpeming, Michigan. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1955 and was received into the novitiate in 1956 as Sister Rose Marie. She received a bachelor’s degree in Latin from Fontbonne College in 1960 and a master’s degree in Latin from St. Louis University, St. Louis in 1968.

Sister Jean served in education for the first 10 years of her ministry at Rosati-Kain High School from 1960 to 1970. She served in retreat/renewal work at Carondelet House of Prayer for a year, and then as a renewal team member for the St. Louis province until 1975.

She served her CSJ community as regional superior/provincial councilor for the Upper Michigan and Wisconsin region at the St. Joseph Provincial House from 1975 to 1982.

Sister Jean served the next 24 years for the Diocese of Marquette, Michigan, in family spirituality ministry (1983-98); as vicar for religious (1992-93) and as a spiritual director (1998-2007).

Sister Jean retired in 2007 and served in volunteer ministry. Since 2016, she has resided at Nazareth Living Center, carrying out her ministry of prayer and presence.
