Sister Suzanne Giro, CSJ

Sister Suzanne Giro was born in Kansas City, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1963 and was received into the novitiate in 1964 as Sister Peter Damian. She received a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Fontbonne College (now University), St. Louis, in 1970.

Sister Suzanne began teaching in Waco, Texas, in 1968 at St. Louis Grade School before moving to Kansas City, Missouri, to teach at Our Lady of the Americas Grade School until 1970. She would then go on to teach at St. Francis Xavier Grade School in Brunswick, Georgia, until 1975. Sister Suzanne transitioned from teaching to serving as a pastoral assistant at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Albany, Georgia, until 1990.

Following her service at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Sister Suzanne served as the director of pastoral care at Carondelet Manor in Kansas City, Missouri until 2001. After a sabbatical, Sister Suzanne served eight years as the assistant mission coordinator at the Congregational Center for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in St. Louis. From 2010 to 2014, she served as the admissions coordinator at Nazareth Living Center.

Since her retirement in 2014, Sister Suzanne has continued to volunteer.
