Sister Sally Clare Harper, CSJ

Sister Sally Harper was born in Norman, Oklahoma and lived in Pennsylvania and Chicago before reaching St. Louis. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1963, and was received into the novitiate in 1964 as Sister William Clare. She earned a bachelor’s degree in speech and theatre from Fontbonne College (now University) in 1969, and a master’s degree in religious studies from St. Louis University in 1977, both in St. Louis.

Sister Sally taught at Little Flower High School in Chicago, Illinois, from 1968 until 1972, and then for the next four years at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florissant, Missouri.

Sister Sally was missioned to Peru in 1977 and served there for the next 43 years. She enjoyed a year sabbatical in 1992 and 6 months in 2017. Throughout her time in Peru, she served in education and parish ministry as well as in Vice Provincial leadership.

In the Congregational Chapter of 2019, Sally was elected to Congregational leadership, her service beginning in January of 2020.
