Sister Mary Rebecca Eichhorn, CSJ

Sister Mary Rebecca Eichhorn, baptized Arlene Mae, was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1953 and was received into the novitiate in 1954. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Fontbonne College (now University), St. Louis in 1966 and a master’s degree in education/reading from Indiana University of Bloomington, Bloomington, Indiana in 1972.

Sister Mary Rebecca began teaching in St. Louis at St. Cecilia in 1956, and at St. Gregory grade school in 1958. In 1964, Sister Mary Rebecca moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma, and taught at St. Joseph Grade School. In 1971, in addition to teaching, she began serving as principal at St. Joseph Grade School, where she remained until 1977.

For nearly 16 years, Sister Mary Rebecca served in the Kansas City/St. Joseph Diocese of Missouri developing and directing service programs for the elderly and those in need. She served at St. Elizabeth Parish and Redemptorist Center.

Sister Mary Rebecca returned to St. Louis and began serving in the Development Office at St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf in 1993. In 1996, she began eight years of service as the director of volunteers at Nazareth Living Center. She then worked in public relations and fundraising at Carondelet Community Betterment Federation until her retirement in 2008.

She continues serving in volunteer ministry at Nazareth Living Center and with the St. Vincent de Paul Ladies Auxiliary at Seven Holy Founders Parish. Sister Mary Rebecca enjoys baking, cooking, planning parties, gardening, reading, and bird watching.
