Sister Mary Margaret Lazio, CSJ

Sister Mary Margaret Lazio was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1963 from Denver, Colorado and was received into the novitiate in 1964 as Sister Helen Charles. She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Avila College (now University, Kansas City, Missouri in 1970 and a master’s degree in nursing from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D. C. in 1978.

In 1968 Sister Mary Margaret began a ministry in healthcare that has spanned over 46 years. She joined St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri in 1970 as a staff nurse. She went on to serve as a head nurse for two years before moving to Washington D. C. to work on her master’s degree which she received in 1978. Sister Mary Margaret returned to Kansas City and served the next 20 years at St. Joseph Health Center. She served as clinical director of medica/surgical nursing, associate administrator of mission and values, vice president, director of nursing, and chief operations officer. When St. Joseph Health Center merged with St. Mary’s Hospital, Blue Springs to become Carondelet Health Corporation, Sister Mary Margaret served as executive director of special projects for over a year. After two years in family care, she served as a registered nurse in Sarasota, Florida at Sarasota Memorial Hospital until 2007.

Sister Mary Margaret returned to St. Louis in 2007 to serve as a nursing supervisor at Nazareth Living Center. From 2014 to 2019 she served her CSJ community as a member of the St. louis Province Leadership Team. In 2019 Sister Mary Margaret began service as a volunteer nurse member of the province health and wholeness ministry. She was recently re-elected to the St. Louis Province Leadership Team and began her five-year term in July, 2023.
