Mary Kathleen (Mary Kay) Hadican, CSJ

Sister Mary Kay Hadican was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1963 and was received into the novitiate in 1964 as Sister Thomas Denise. She received a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Fontbonne College (not University), St. Louis in 1970 and a master’s degree in religious education from Seattle University, Seattle in 1974. She also received a certificate in theology from the Jesuit School of Theology, Berkely, California in 1992.

Sister Mary Kay began teaching in 1968 at St. Thomas More Grade School in Kansas City, Missouri. She returned to St. Louis in 1972 and taught at Our Lady of the Presentation Grade School for one year. 

Remaining in St. Louis, she served as the religious education coordinator in 1973 at Saints John & James Parish and then at Our Lady of the Presentation Parish in 1974. Sister Mary Kay would then go on to serve as a religious education regional consultant for the Jefferson City Diocese, Jefferson City, Missouri until 1981. For the next ten years, Sister Mary Kay served as a pastoral associate at the Columbia-Newman Center in Columbia, Missouri.

Following a sabbatical at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkley, California

she served as a Pastoral Associate at Our Lady of Star of the Sea in Santa Cruz, California, until 1994. Sister Mary Kay then went on to serve at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, first as the mission integration manager and then as executive vice president of mission for Carondelet Health until 2002.

She served her CSJ community as a member of the St. Louis Province Leadership Team from 2002 to 2008. Following her time in leadership, Sister Mary Kay served in St. Louis, as the Catholic identity advisor to the Most Holy Trinity School from 2010 until 2018 and served on the Sponsors Council for Ascension Health Ministries from 2010 to 2014 and as a member of Ascension Sponsor until 2019. Sister Mary Kay, Nazareth Living Center Board of Trustees and Foundation Board and Holy Cross Academy Board of Trustees. She continues to volunteer at St Louis Catholic Academy and her parish justice committee.
