Sister Julie Guillot, CSJ

Sister Julie Guillot was born in Natchez, Mississippi. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1953 and was received into the novitiate in 1954 as Sister Joseph Margaret. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Fontbonne College (now University), St. Louis in 1962 and a master’s degree in deaf education from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas in 1967.

Sister Julie served nearly 30 years at St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis. She began her service in 1956 and held roles as a teacher and an administrative intern until 1981, when she began four years of service as the director.

Sister Julie then served in Alabama for almost the next 30 years, notably as the executive director of Eastern Shore Affordable Houses, a lifeline program with the primary mission of providing low-income housing and home repair assistance for needy families.

In 2014, Sister Julie retired to Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, where she carries out her ministry of prayer and presence. She is known as the flower girl because she plants flowers and trees all over the Nazareth Campus.

Sister Julie will be celebrating on Saturday, April 20 at 5:30 p.m. Mass at St. Lawrence Catholic Parish in Fairhope, Alabama.
