60th Jubilee
Sister Margaret Mary was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1962 and was received into the novitiate in 1963 as Sister James Margaret. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history/social studies from Fontbonne College in 1967, and master’s degrees in history/modern Europe from the University of Notre Dame in 1975 and in secondary education administration from the University of Missouri St. Louis in 1987.
Sister Margaret Mary began her 48-year ministry of education at St. Patrick Grade School in University City, Missouri. She taught at St. Joseph Academy in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from 1969 until 1978, and at Reicher Catholic High School in Waco, Texas, until 1984.
Sister Margaret Mary spent the next four years serving as director of Curriculum at Academy of Our Lady in Peoria, Illinois. She served as principal at St. Elizabeth Academy in St. Louis, Schlarman High School in Danville, Illinois., Peru Catholic School in Peru, Illinois., and at Visitation School in Kewanee, Illinois.
Sister Margaret Mary spent the next 15 years in various roles at Peoria Notre Dame High School in Peoria, serving as director of academics, assistant principal of curriculum and supervision, and assistant principal for student affairs.
In November of 2013, Pope Benedict XVI recognized Sister Margaret. She was bestowed the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Cross for her 25 years of service to the church in the Peoria diocese.
Sister Margaret Mary retired from educational ministry in 2015. She has served her CSJ community as a member of the Province Leadership Team since 2019.
