Jubilarian 2023 - Sister Kathleen Karbowski

Sister Kathleen was born in St. Louis and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1962. She received the habit and name Sister Catherine Edmund in 1963. She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Fontbonne College in 1967 and her master's degree in religious education from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, in 1976.

She began teaching at St. Anthony of Padua Grade School in St. Louis. Two years later, she taught junior high at St. Roch School. She moved to Kansas City and taught at St. Elizabeth School until she was asked to serve as principal of St. John the Evangelist School in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from 1971-1975.

After completing her master's degree, she served one year as the director of Religious Education at Holy Cross Parish in Champaign, Illinois. She moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, and served at DRE at Holy Angels Parish. She served in that position until 1988 when she came back to St. Louis, working as pastoral associate at St. Barbara's Parish for the next two years.

In 1991 she returned to Holy Angels in Indianapolis and served as the school evangelizer, teaching religion in the school and teaching parent classes on the Catholic faith.

Sister Kathleen began her ministry at Nazareth Living Center in 2002 where she served as Community Life Coordinator caring for the CSJ sister residents until her retirement in 2020. She continues to volunteer there but will begin a new ministry serving in Province Leadership with the Sisters of St. Joseph on July 1, 2023.
