60th Jubilee
Sister Mary Ann was born in Rich Fountain, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1961 and was received into the novitiate in 1962 as Sister Rita Anthony. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Fontbonne College in 1966 and a master’s degree in education administration from Northeastern Illinois University in 1984.
A career educator for 33 years, Sister Mary Ann taught throughout the Midwest. In 1964, she began teaching in Keshena, Wisconsin, at St. Joseph Industrial School, before transitioning to St. Michael Grade School in Marquette, Michigan, until 1969. She then taught at Sacred Heart Grade School in Indianapolis until 1971, and later at St. Elizabeth Grade School in Kansas City, Missouri. Sister Mary Ann continued teaching at St. Bede the Venerable Grade School in Chicago until 1975, before serving at Compton Heights Catholic Grade School in St. Louis until 1979.
Sister Mary Ann served the next 19 years in Chicago, teaching at St. Joseph Carondelet Child Center and tutoring at Nativity of Our Lord Grade School until 1984. Sister Mary Ann transitioned to administration, serving as principal at St. Bonaventure Grade School until 1989 and at St. Clare of Montefalco until 1991. She returned to serve in the Archdiocese of St. Louis as principal at Holy Rosary Grade School in Warrenton, Missouri, until 2003.
Sister Mary Ann took a year sabbatical, and, since 2004, has served her CSJ community, ministering to the sisters in residence at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis.
