75th Jubilee
Sister Ruth Baudhuin was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in February 1946 and was received into the novitiate in August 1946 as Sister Mary Catherine. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Fontbonne College in 1963.
For more than 30 years, Sister Ruth was a grade-school educator. Her first assignment was at St. Edward in St. Louis, 1948-1955. In the 1950s and 60s, she taught at Most Holy Rosary in St. Louis and St. Bede the Venerable in Chicago. She was a teacher and also principal at St. Patrick in Sedalia, Missouri, 1963-68. In Michigan, from 1969 to 1974, she taught at Mater Dei Grade School in Kingsford and St. Michael Grade School in Marquette.
Sister Ruth travelled to the Pacific for her next teaching assignments: St. Theresa Grade School in Honolulu, Hawaii, 1974-80, and St. Joseph’s in Tsu Shi, Mie-Ken, Japan, through 1983.
For the next 20 years, Sister Ruth dedicated herself to work in health care as a pastoral associate. After briefly serving at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, she served at St. Joseph Medical Health Canter in Kansas City, Missouri, through 2003. She continued serving in health care as a volunteer for 10 years, both at St. Joseph Health Center and at Carondelet Home Care Services in the Kansas City area.
In 2013, Sister Ruth moved to Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, and, in 2016, she returned to her place of birth, Sturgeon Bay, where she continues to carry on her ministry of prayer and presence.
