Jubilarian 2021 - Sister Paulette Gladis

Sister Paulette Gladis, baptized Eleanor Regina, was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1950 and was received into the novitiate in 1951 as Sister Mary Paulette. She received a bachelor’s degree in business education from Fontbonne College in 1962; a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame in 1965; and a doctorate in business education from the University of North Dakota in 1970. She completed a post-doctoral training program in health care administration from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1982.

Sister Paulette taught at St. Anthony Grade School (1953-1960) and at St. Gregory (1960) in St. Louis.

The following two years, Sister Paulette taught at Sacred Heart Grade School in Shawano, Wisconsin.

From 1962 to 1963, she taught at St. Joseph Academy in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The next five years, Sister Paulette was the business administrator at Fontbonne College. Upon completion of her master’s degree, she returned to teach at Fontbonne College from 1970 to 1973. She taught at Avila College in Kansas City the following five years. From 1979 to 1983, Sister Paulette was the dean of graduate programs at Mt. St. Mary College in Los Angeles, California.

She served her CSJ community as the St. Louis province treasurer from 1983 to 1987.

Sister Paulette went on to serve as the intern hospital administrator at St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson, Arizona (1987-1988); assistant to the president at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Inglewood, California (1988-1991); executive director for the Center for Spiritual Development in Orange, California (1991 1995); and as community relations manager at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Inglewood (1995-1996).

She returned to St. Louis and served her CSJ community. For the next six years, she was the assistant director for the St. Louis province. After a sabbatical, she served as the administrator for Gleason Hall at Nazareth Living Center from 2003 to 2004. She was pastoral care assistant at Nazareth Living Center from 2005 to 2013. She then served part-time as both as a transcriber for the St. Louis province archives (2013-2017) and pastoral care associate at Nazareth Living Center (2014-2017).

Sister Paulette received the Fontbonne College (now University) Founders Award for education and health care in 2000.

Since 2017, she has resided at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, carrying out her mission of prayer and presence.
