Jubilarian 2021 - Sister Nancy Marsh

Sister Nancy Marsh was born in Jacksonville, Florida. She entered the Sisters of St Joseph of Carondelet in 1970 and was received into the novitiate in 1971. She received bachelor’s degree in home economics education from Fontbonne College in 1970, and an associate’s degree in nursing in 1978 and a master’s degree in adult health/oncology nursing in 1993, both from Georgia State University.

Sister Nancy began her ministry teaching home economics and religion at Valle High School in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri (1970-71) and the Academy of Our Lady in Peoria, Illinois (1972-73); and home economics at St. Joseph High School in Atlanta, Georgia (1973-76).

In 1978, she began her career in nursing that continues today. She was a medical-surgical nurse at the Crawford Long Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia (1978-1979). She served as a medical-surgical nurse in oncology at the St. Joseph Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota (1979-1980) and St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri (1980-1981).

While in graduate school, Sister Nancy served in several part-time nursing positions at Haven House AIDS Hospice, and as a research assistant in a cardiac drug study at the VA Hospital.

In 1993, she was a clinical nurse specialist in oncology at West Paces Medical Center in Atlanta. From 1994 to 1997, she served as a home care infusion/IV specialist for three home care companies in Atlanta: Midtown Home Infusion, Interim HealthCare, and Nursefinders, working with HIV/AIDS patients during the Aids crisis.

Sister Nancy then became a hospice nurse for Portsbridge Hospice in Dunwoody, Georgia (1997), and an IV team staff relief for Staff Builder Health Care Services in Atlanta (1997-98). Then, from 1998 to 2014, she served at the Georgia Cancer Specialist in Atlanta, Georgia, where she served as a floating nurse between three offices in North Atlanta administering chemotherapy treatments and pharmacy admixture in the clean room.

In 2015, Sister Nancy moved to St. Louis. Since then, she has been a part-time nurse at Mary Ryder Home, providing diabetic nail care and yearly Medicaid reassessment for residents.

Sister Nancy’s interests and hobbies include bobbin lacemaking, knitting, creative art expression, mandala art prayer, being active on social media and cooking.
