Jubilarian 2021 - Sister Marion Renkens

Sister Marion Renkens was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1960 and was received into the novitiate in 1961 as Sister Georgine Marie. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Fontbonne College in 1968 and graduated in 1980 from St. Norbert College Theology Institute.

Sister Marion began her nearly 25 years in education teaching in elementary schools. In Illinois, she taught at St. Viator Grade School in Chicago (1965-68); St Cecilia Grade School in Peoria (1968-71) and at St. Bede the Venerable Grade School in Chicago (1971-74). She moved south and taught at Little Flower Grade school in Mobile, Alabama (1974-75); St. Mary on the Hill Grade School in Augusta, Georgia (1975-79); and at St. Joseph Grade School in Marietta, Georgia (1979-83).

The following year, Sister Marion served as a hospitality liaison at the St. Joseph Provincial House in St. Louis. She then finished her final years of teaching on the high school level at St. Teresa’s Academy in Kansas City, Missouri (1984-1990). Sister Marion served the next year as the regional development director of the CSJ Kansas City Regional Development Office.

Sister Marion served nine years for the Diocese of Kansas City/St. Joseph as parish transition coordinator (1990-91) and eight years as director of St. John’s Retreat Center (1991-99).

Sister Marion returned to St. Louis in 2000 and served as the administrator of the St. Louis province motherhouse for 17 years.

Since her retirement in 2017, Sister Marion volunteers at many organizations that support the Carondelet neighborhood.
