Jubilarian 2020 - Sister Ann Gerard Siebert

Sister Ann Gerard Siebert was born in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. She was baptized Margaret Mary and was the oldest of nine children. She and her sister, Sister Roseanne, entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1959 and were received into the novitiate in 1960. She received a bachelor’s degree in deaf education from Fontbonne College in 1964 and a master’s degree in applied linguistics from Georgetown University in 1970.

Sister Ann Gerard, along with her sister Roseanne, dedicated her life’s ministry to deaf education, teaching at St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf since 1964. She taught students in grades 3-8, focusing primarily on reading and language.

Sister Ann has been involved in presenting workshops to teachers of the deaf in other programs, traveling to visit programs for the deaf in this country, as well as in other countries, and attending conventions for professionals in many other cities. She was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 1978 by the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf.

She retired in 2013, and volunteers as an archival aide for her CSJ community and as a driver for the sisters at Nazareth Living Center

Her other interests include reading, art, classical music and visiting the beautiful Missouri Botanical Gardens and other parks.
