Sister Kathryn Kitslaar, CSJ

Sister Kathryn “Kate” Ann Kitslaar was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1948 and was received into the novitiate in 1949 as Sister Dymphna Marie. She received a bachelor’s degree in history/English from Fontbonne College (now University), St. Louis in 1960 and a master’s in education, secondary counseling/guidance from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana in 1966.

Sister Kate served in education for nearly 30 years. She taught at Nativity of Our Lord in St. Louis, Missouri (1951-53); St. Joseph Industrial School in Keshena, Wisconsin (1953-57); St. Michael in Marquette, Michigan (1957-58); St. Rita in St. Louis (1958-60); St. Joseph’s Academy in Green Bay, Wisconsin (1960-63); Little Flower High School in Chicago (1963-66); and Bishop Baraga High School in Marquette, Michigan (1966-68). Sister Kate then served as a counselor at St. Thomas Aquinas in Florissant, Missouri until 1970. She then began 10 years of service as a counselor at St. Joseph’s Academy in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

In 1980, Sister Kate began serving in geriatric care at McCormick Home of the Aged in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She returned to St. Louis in 1984 to serve as the coordinator of the retirement community for the Frontenac Community

For the next 18 years, Sister Kate served her CSJ community. At the St. Joseph Provincial House in St. Louis, she served as director of personnel from 1985 until 1988, administrator from 1987 until 1988, regional superior from 1988 until 1990, provincial councilor from 1988 until 1992, and as co-administrator from 1988 until 1992.

At Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, she began serving as the medical appointment coordinator in 1992. Sister Kate served as activities director at Nazareth Living Center until 1999 when she began community service.

Sister Kate retired in 2003. She resides at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis and continues to live out her ministry of prayer and presence.
