25th Jubilarian
Annie Emmett was born in Ireland, where she grew up with three brothers and one sister. In 1966, she immigrated to the United States through Quebec, Canada. The Emmett family eventually settled in Augusta, Georgia, where Annie and her husband raised their three sons and two daughters. Now 93 years old, Annie's family has expanded to include 23 great-grandchildren, with one daughter and four grandchildren still living nearby.
Annie's connection to the St. Joseph community began through Emily Anderson, whose dedicated service to St. Joseph Hospital inspired Annie. Emily offered Annie a position filing documents at the hospital, which led to a 20-year career in physical therapy, followed by work in occupational and lymphedema therapy. It was during her time at the hospital that Annie met the Sisters of St. Joseph and developed a deep admiration for them.
Sister Fran Voivedich served as Annie's sponsor when she became an associate, helping her strengthen her faith journey. Though Sisters Fran, Gabe Smits and Rosemary McLarney relocated to Kansas City several years ago, they have maintained their connection with Annie, even visiting her last summer. Sister Carole Ann Walton continues to bring associates and hospital community members together for prayer and fellowship.
What resonates most with Annie about the sisters is their equal treatment of everyone, accepting people as they are without distinction. She values their prayers and the spiritual support they provide. For those considering becoming an associate, Annie encourages them to embrace this opportunity for faith development.
Annie expresses her heartfelt gratitude to all the sisters and associates who have enriched her spiritual journey.
