*Note: Per Sister Anna’s request, her necrology does not include a detailed description of her life and ministry.
Parents Francis and Anna Margaret (O’Brien) Kern of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, welcomed their daughter, Helen Margaret, on April 10, 1927. When her grade school and high school education were completed, she found work. In 1948, she decided to enter the Sisters of St. Joseph.
In 1950, after her novitiate, Sister Anna began doing general help at St. Joseph’s Home for Boys in St. Louis. She then became interested
in teaching. She moved to Chicago in 1952 and began teaching at St. Joseph Carondelet Child Center.
In 1962, Sister Anna moved to Negaunee, Michigan, where she taught at St. Paul Grade School. She returned to St. Louis the following year and taught elementary students at St. Jude Grade School. Her next ministry was at Joseph’s Home for Boys in 1965.
