From St. Joseph's Academy

It was an inspiring evening on April 10 as the St. Joseph’s Academy’s Alumnae Association held their annual alumnae awards celebration, St. Joe Salutes. Six incredible women were honored for their commitment to serving the dear neighbor and for embodying the very best of their community. Among the honorees was our very own Sister Barbara Volk, a SJA graduate of 1954, who was selected as the 2025 recipient of the Mary Lawless Denness ’56 “Not I, But We” Award.

The Mary Lawless Denness '56 "Not I, But We" Award honors an alumna of St. Joseph’s Academy who exemplifies the school's motto through selfless service and compassionate actions that benefit others. S. Barbara was recognized for her lifelong commitment to education, art and community service. Her work as a teacher, principal, museum docent and advocate for the arts reflects the Academy’s values and her dedication to serving others.

Candidates for the alumnae awards are carefully reviewed by a committee made up of members of the Alumnae Council, with final approval from the council and administrative team. Since 2005, the awards program has expanded to recognize more alumnae for their notable contributions.
