Dear all:

I enjoyed a day in Pachacutec last week at another Fe y Alegria School. It is Number #59 in the order it was founded. The Sisters of the Holy Cross and Passion from Chile were the first teachers. They left two years ago to return to Chile. We came to replace them.

Pachacutec is a poor town, having dirt roads. It is dusty on a high hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It is two hours north of Lima by bus. The area is developing slowly.

The school has three levels of education (inicial-preschool; primaria-1-6 grades; collegio-high school. Sisters Maritza and Maria Elena teach in high school. They live in a small house within walking distance of the school. They have a leaky roof, hopefully to be repaired soon.

Maritza and Maria Elena welcomed Sister Zaida and me with open arms. Zaida prepared almuerzo (dinner in the middle of the day) while I visited the school in the morning. We all went to school in the afternoon, including Lilly, my puppet friend.

David, a little child from first grade welcomed us. He gave me a hug and took my hand to show me to his classroom.

The children were happy to meet us and to talk to Lilly.

The director and teachers told us that many teachers travel two hours to get to school. They live a distance; traffic is heavy; buses are full.

The photos give you the flavor of the school 😊

Peace in God’s great love,

Margaret
