Season of Creation

By Sister Barbara Jennings, CSJ

On October 2, thanks to the work of many sisters, associates and motherhouse staff, we prayed together as a province in person at the motherhouse and via live stream to celebrate the Season of Creation and the fifth anniversary of Laudato Si. The gathering also drew attention to the native plants that have been planted on the motherhouse campus.

We thanked our Creator for the gift of beauty. We thanked our Creator for awakening us to our reliance on native flowers, bees and butterflies.

We thanked our Creator for giving us our food at the proper time, for gracing us with the awareness that without pollinators, we would not have fruits, vegetables, honey and nuts. We asked our Creator to help us preserve native flowers on our properties.

In addition to the service, people took walking tours of the grounds to learn more about the native plants on campus. The same prayer service was held that afternoon at Nazareth Living Center for the sisters there.

Many thanks to my fellow members of the Season of Creation Committee: S. Mary Louise Basler, A. Kay Komotos, S. Monica Kleffner, S. Janet Kuciejczyk, S. Amy Hereford and S. Betty Leiwe; to staff members Jenny Beatrice, Joe Wingbermuehle and Jeff Minor; and to all those who served as greeters, tour guides, readers and musicians.
