Awaken Your Inner Spirit Through the Arts at Linger Over Breakfast KC

Since ancient times, art, music, poetry, and ritual have been recognized as agents of consciousness transformation. Music, dance, and rituals have created societies and formed cultures. Art awakened values within people and conveyed a system of values to a whole society.

—Sister Pat Bergen, CSJ

Art is an instrument the Catholic church has used to share their story with society thru the ages. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet have also illustrated the importance of the arts through their teaching and living amid art. As our historic Carondelet Motherhouse grew, a desire for inspirational beauty led to the creation of art and china painting studios. Today, the motherhouse is a sumptuous living illustration of the arts. Historic architectural and artisan details replete with symbolism are in our woodwork, stained glass, wood and marble statues, murals and unique maple and black walnut parquet flooring. The Arrival, a relief (wall-mounted sculpture) created by Rudolph Torrini, honors our sisters coming to America from France. In Heritage Hall, our history comes alive through interactive artistic panels, educating and inspiring guests. The motherhouse is a feast for our spirit and soul through transformative art.

On May 6, Sister Pat Bergen, CSJ, co-founder of the Well Spirituality Center for the Congregation of St. Joseph in La Grange Park, Illinois, will illustrate how we can awaken our inner spirit through the arts at Linger Over Breakfast in Kansas City. She will explore how art embraces our inner wisdom while building skills, flexibility and agility.

S. Pat has a doctorate in ministry and years of experience in leadership of her congregation and restorative justice work. She has a passion for awakening people to the oneness of all creation and its implications for our understanding of scripture, justice, leadership and prayer.

Through our shared arts participation, we will build community among us, bringing hope and healing to a divided world, and expanding on our belief that all is sacred and connected. Join your neighbors for this enriching morning program that will nourish your mind, body and spirit.
