Beginning on Founders Day on October 15, 2024, until October 15, 2025, the Sisters of St. Joseph are celebrating their 375th Jubilee Anniversary Celebration. The U.S. Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph will host a variety of events to honor this historic anniversary, including Founders Day prayer services, the Dear Neighbor Series, 375th anniversary Year Listening Circles and an in-person/virtual celebration event in Kansas City.
The federation, in collaboration with the Global Coordinating Group, created the 375th anniversary year logo for the Sisters of St. Joseph congregations to have a common, visible image that links the great diversity of ways we celebrate this momentous year around the world.
The Anniversary Logo
The logo features the outline of Le Puy’s skyline across the panels to represent our roots. The unfinished lace along the top represents our charism that continues to grove in creative and diverse ways. The six dots represent our first founding sisters.
THE U.S. FEDERATION OF THE SISTERS OF ST. JOSEPH
The U.S. Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph (CSSJ) joins with our international congregations in celebrating the 375th anniversary of our founding. The Sisters of St. Joseph began with six women meeting in a small kitchen in Le Puy, France, in 1650. These six women had a common desire to grow in their love of God and serve the unmet needs of the people around them, whom they came to call their “dear neighbors.”
These women, with the spiritual direction of a Jesuit priest, Jean Pierre Medaille, formed the first community of Sisters of St. Joseph. From their humble beginnings as widows meeting in a small kitchen, the order grew to include communities all over the world. Today, we continue to respond to the unmet and critical needs of our contemporary society and world. Our mission, informed by a deep and pervasive love of God and neighbor without distinction, moves us to respond in a spirit of unifying, reconciling love to the needs of our local communities, the people of God and the global community in which we live.
