s. winifred adelsberger

70th Jubilee
Sister Winifred, baptized Mary Winifred, was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1941 and was received into the novitiate in 1942. She received a bachelor’s degree in Latin from Fontbonne College in 1955 and a master’s degree in Latin from St. Louis University in 1964.

Sister Winifred devoted 40 years of service to education at schools in Missouri, Oklahoma and Illinois. 

In the Archdiocese of St. Louis she served at Holy Rosary Grade School and St. Louis Cathedral Grade School (1944), St. Edward School (1952-55), St. Thomas Aquinas High School (1956), St. Anthony High School (1964-1965); St. Joseph’s Academy as assistant principal (1966-1971), and as principal at St. Thomas Aquinas (1971-1983). She then worked for the archdiocese as the coordinator of school data service at the Catholic Education Office.

She also served as an administrative assistant at the Congregational Center for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in St. Louis.

In 2001 Sister Winifred moved into volunteer ministry in which she is still actively engaged. She is an avid sports fan and enjoys reading mystery stories.
