Sister Mary was born in Green Bay, Wis. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1951 and was received into the novitiate in 1952 as Sister Ann Irene. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Fontbonne College in 1961and a master’s degree in counseling and guidance from St. Mary’s University, San Antonio in 1970.
Sister Mary taught at schools in Colorado, Missouri, Texas and Peoria, including Saints John and James School 1958-1962 in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
She served as a parish visitor for St. Peter Parish in Kirkwood, Mo. from 1974-1980.
She began her service in hospitals in the early 1980s in Green Bay, Wis. and at Lindell Hospital in St. Louis. From 1983-1991 Sister Mary served as chaplain at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri.
In 2007, after 15 years of service as a hopital chaplain in South Carolina, she moved to Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis where she serves in prayer and witness at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis.
