Sister Mary Laurent, baptized Geraldine, was born in St. Louis, Mo. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1941 and was received into the novitiate in 1942. She received bachelor’s degrees in Latin in 1941 and music in 1950 from Fontbonne College. She received a master’s degree in musicology from the University of Illinois, Champaign in 1956 and a doctorate in musicology from Eastman School of Music in 1968. 

Over her 30 years in education, Sister Mary Laurent has taught at schools in Missouri, Wisconsin, and New York. 

She began her career in the 1940s at St. Teresa's Academy in Kansas City, Mo.

In the Archdiocese of St. Louis, she taught at Rosati-Kain High Schooland St. Joseph’s Academy in 1950s and 60s, and at St. Anthony High School in the 1970s. She was also a faculty member at both Fontbonne College and Avila University.

Sister Mary Laurent served her CSJ community as provincial superior from 1971-1977. Her service continued from 1998 - 2008 in the province Development Office as the associate director and later as office worker.

Since 2008 Sister has resided at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis where she continues to carry out her ministry of prayer and witness.
