Sister Mary Alma Monaghan, CSJ

 

Biographical:

Sister Mary Alma, baptized Margaret, was born in Kansas City, Missouri.  She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1934 and was received into the novitiate in 1935.   She received a bachelor’s degree in Latin from Fontbonne College in 1948 and a master’s degree in Latin from St. Louis University in 1953.

 

Service in the Archdiocese of St. Louis:

In her more than 50-year career in education, Sister Mary Alma taught at St. Louis Cathedral School (1930s),  Rosati-Kain High School (1950s), and St. Anthony High School (1970s) where she was also a counselor. 

 

Service outside the Archdiocese: 

Sister has taught in Oklahoma, Texas, Wisconsin, Alabama, and Missouri, including 13 years at St. Teresa’s Academy in Kansas City.

 

About Sister Mary Alma Monaghan, CSJ:

Since her retirement in 1998 Sister Mary Alma has resided at Nazareth Living Center in South County where she continues to carry out her ministry of prayer and witness. She was a recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award.
