Sister Marie, baptized Blanche Elizabeth, was born in Kansas City, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1936 and was received into the novitiate in 1937 as Sister Marie Theodorine. She received a bachelor’s degree in English from Fontbonne College in 1944 and a master’s degree in English literature from St. Louis University in 1949.
Sister Marie dedicated more than 35 years of service to teaching at schools in St. Louis and Kansas City, Mo. as well as in Michigan and Wisconsin.
In St. Louis, she taught in the 1940s and 50s at St. Teresa of Avila Parish Grade School, St. Anthony of Padua Grade School and at St. Anthony High School. She also taught at St. Teresa's Academy in Kansas City during the 1960s and 70s.
She continued serving in Kansas City as the director/administrator at the Redemptorist Retirement Home. In 1989, she returned to education at Avila University where she served as a librarian, ESL teacher, instructor in international language and cultural programs and as a tutor.
From 1997 until her retirement in 2002, she remained in the Kansas City area working for the province's Development Office and in CSJ Care home service.
Since 2002 Sister Marie has resided at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis where she continues to carry out her ministry of prayer and witness.
