S. Loretta Hennekes
Sister Loretta Hennekes, CSJ
Biographical:
Sister Loretta Hennekes was born in St. Louis. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1949 and was received into the novitiate in 1950 as Sister John Bernard. She received a bachelor’s degree in history from Fontbonne College in 1958 and a master’s degree in history/modern Europe from St. Louis University in 1963.
Service in the Archdiocese of St. Louis:
Sister Loretta taught at numerous archdiocesan schools from the 1950s through the 1970s: Sts. John & James School, St. Cecilia School, St. Edward School, Holy Name School, St. Matthew School, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, and St. Louis Prep Seminary North. In the late 1980s Sister was a campus minister at St. Louis University. She also served her CSJ community as the social justice office director and as the coordinator of association/partnership for the St. Louis province.
Service outside the Archdiocese:
Sister has served in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.
About Sister Loretta Hennekes, CSJ:
Sister Loretta retired in 2002. Since 2008 she has resided at Nazareth Living Center in South County where she continues to carry out her ministry of prayer and witness.
