Dear Sisters,
Thank you for your prayers for me on my feast day and for the Masses you had offered for my intention....
His Eminence, Pietro Cardinal Fumasoni-Biondi, our Cardinal Protector, sent a very beautiful and encouraging letter approving our entering mission work in Japan. He also graciously obtained the necessary Rescript from the Sacred Congregation of the Propaganda Fide.
We have purchased a residence for the Sisters in Kyoto, which is large enough to house a future novitiate. We are happy to be able to obtain the services of Miss Catherine Kigami of Kyoto as interpreter for the Sisters. She has spent four years at our Mount Saint Mary's College in Los Angeles and is a member of this year's graduating class. She has arranged to accompany our Sisters in Japan.
We have planned a Departure Ceremony for the four Sisters to be held at the Generalate on July twenty-fourth at 2:30 p.m. We shall be happy to have any of you present who can arrange to be here. I know, whether you can be here or not, that you will pray for the Sisters on that day and join with all the members of the Congregation in asking God to bless them as they leave to work for Christ in that distant land....
