At the entrance of the new independent living apartments, The Most Reverend Edward Rice presided over the official Oct. 6 blessing of The Village at Nazareth, located on the 16 acre campus of Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis.

“The addition of The Village at Nazareth campus is another step of executing our vision of providing a full continuum from independent living through skilled nursing services for our residents,” said Lu Westhoff, administrator of Nazareth Living Center. “This is another measure the Board of Trustees has completed in our vision to offer on one campus a community that supports older adults and their families.”

Blessing ceremony participants included representatives from Nazareth Living Center’s ministry partners, Sister Suzanne Wesley, CSJ of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet Province Leadership Team; and Kevin Rymanowski and Chris Boldt of  Benedictine Health System.  John Schmerold, chair of Nazareth Living Center’s Board of Trustees, also spoke.

The Village at Nazareth serves older adults who are able to live independently. As part of the grand opening, current residents and family members and other invited guests toured the three-story building with 50 apartment homes.

“Residents are enjoying the many social activities available here as they get acquainted with one another and their new home,” said Mary Leiber, residency counselor.

Nazareth Living Center is a Catholic, nonprofit assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation community.  The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and the Benedictine Health System serve as ministry partners in providing holistic care for women and men of all faiths, races and socio-economic backgrounds.  For more information, go to
