Sister Teresa Lawrence DeRoche 1932-2016

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Teresa Lawrence DeRoche who passed away on October 30 at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, Missouri. She was 83 years of age and a Sister of St. Joseph for 63 years. 

Sister Teresa Lawrence was born on November 10, 1932 in Ishpeming, Michigan, to parents Lawrence and Mildred (La Joie) DeRoche.  She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on September 15, 1952, and made her final profession on August 15, 1960.

She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Fontbonne College in 1960.

In 1955, she taught at at St. Vincent De Paul Grade School in St. Louis. She taught in Peoria, Illinois, at St Mary Cathedral Grade School from 1961 to 1966; in Hancock, Michigan, at St. Joseph/St. Patrick Grade School for one year and in Denver, Colorado, at St. Patrick Grade School the following year.

Sister Teresa Lawrence was a day-care staff member from 1969 to 1971 in St. Louis at the Carondelet Day Care Center.  Her last two teaching assignments were in Michigan at Bishop Baraga Central Grade School 1971 to 1973 and at St. Paul Grade School in 1973.

Returning to Missouri, Sister Teresa Lawrence tutored at St. Gregory in St. Ann until 1976.  The following year, she volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital in Kirkwood, Missouri. And in 1997, she began seven years of service at Sacred Heart Grade School in Shawano, Wisconsin, as a tutor.

Since 1984, she resided at Nazareth Living center and continued her ministry in prayer and presence.

A memorial Mass will be held in the Nazareth Living Center Chapel on Wednesday, November 9 at 11 a.m.
