Sister Sarah Ann Mitra, CSJ 1936-2017

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Sarah Ann Mitra who passed away on February 8 at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, Missouri. She was 80 years of age.

Sister Sarah Ann Mitra, baptized Rose Marie, was born on August 30, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri, to parents Anthony and Sarah (Dilorenzo) Mitra.  She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on September 15, 1954, and made her final profession on August 6, 1962.

Sister Sarah Ann spent her first years of ministry as a nurse’s aide. She began by serving her CSJ community at Nazareth Convent in St. Louis from 1957 to 1967. She also served at St. Joseph Community Hospital in Hancock, Michigan, and St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf, when it was located in University City, Missouri.

Sister Sarah Ann served her ministry in St. Louis for the reminder of her life. 

In 1976, she was a staff member at the Carondelet Day Care Center that was located at the Provincial House. After a year tutoring at St. Margaret of Scotland Grade School, she taught pre-school at St. Rita Grade School through 1982.

For the next 11 years, Sister Sarah Ann continued her work with children as a volunteer, first at Our Lady of the Presentation Grade School, then returning to the Carondelet Day Care Center.

She served her CSJ community from 1994 to 2007 as a volunteer at the St. Joseph Center Outreach. And since 2007, Sister Martha had been living at Nazareth Living Center carrying out her ministry of prayer and presence

The funeral Mass will be held Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. at Nazareth Living Center, 2 Nazareth Lane, St. Louis, MO 63129.
