Sister Ruth Stuckel Honored at Avila University

Avila President Ron Slepitza with Sister Ruth Stuckel at the Honorary Alumnus Awards.

On Sunday, September 27, Sister Ruth Stuckel was presented the Honorary Alumnus Award at CSJ-sponsored Avila University.

Send her a note of congratulations on!

Sister Ruth spent 50 years teaching: 42 years teaching philosophy and 35 of those years at Avila.

She loved her students and nothing gave her greater joy than to see her students question, critique, reflect and articulate their own philosophy of life in light of the wisdom of the ages.

Sister Ruth was made a Fellow of the Oxford Round Table, Oxford University, England, where she presented a paper, “St. Teresa of Avila: 16th Century Feminist.”

Upon retiring from Avila University in 2008, Dr. Ron Slepitza, CSJA, president of Avila University, bestowed on her the title of “professor emerita of philosophy."

Sister Ruth continues to serve by volunteering with the CSJ K.C. Regional Office of Mission Advancement. In addition, for the past 10 years, she, along with Associate Nicole Nicoll, co-chairs the formation sessions for Avila members desiring to become associates of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
