Sister Rosemary Junak 1934-2012

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Rosemary Junak (S. Leona Stephen) who passed away on March 26 of end stages of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, Mo. She was 77 years old.
S. Rosemary was born to parents Stephen and Leona (Larmour) Junak in Ishpeming, Mich. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet on September 15, 1952, and made her final profession on August 15, 1960. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Fontbonne College in 1963 and did graduate studies in pastoral theology at the University of Notre Dame from 1963-1967.
For the first 18 years of S. Rosemary's mission, she taught at several grade schools including Nativity of Our Lord in Chicago, Ill., (1955-1956); Saints Mary & Joseph (1956-1958) and St. Thomas of Aquin (1958-1962), in St. Louis; Little Flower (1962-1965) and St. Matthew (1965-1971) in Mobile, Ala.; and Blessed Sacrament in Atlanta, Ga., (1971-1973). S. Rosemary then chose a different path for her life's work.
In 1973 she transitioned from teacher to pastoral care coordinator at St. Joseph Hospital in Kirkwood, Mo. Then S. Rosemary returned to her hometown of Ishpeming in 1978 and served for the Ishpeming Area Catholic Board as hospital chaplain, hospital/nursing home ministry and pastoral associate over the next 24 years.
S. Rosemary retired in 2002 and was a volunteer at St. John Parish in Ishpeming. In 2006 she moved to the Woodland Assisted Living Community in Negaunee, Mich., and then to Nazareth Living Center in 2009.
Funeral arrangements are planned for Wednesday, March 28 at the Nazareth Living Center Chapel, 2 Nazareth Lane, St. Louis, MO 63129. The wake is at 9:00 a.m. followed by the funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
