Sister Rose Mary Willett, CSJ 1929-2015

June 29, 1929 - December 27, 2015

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Rose Mary Willett, CSJ who passed away on Dec. 27 at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis. She was 86 years of age.

Sister Rose Mary was born on June 29, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to parents Francis Charles and Eva Marie (Wheeler) Willett. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on September 15 , 1949, was received as Sister Marie Francis and made her final profession on August 15, 1957.

She received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Fontbonne College in St. Louis in 1956 and a master's in economics from the University of Notre Dame in 1964.

Sister Rose Mary began her 65 years as a Sister of St. Joseph as a teacher. She served at St. Margaret of Scotland in St. Louis in 1952. In 1953, she served at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Grade School in Kansas City, and then at St. Francis de Sales High School in Denver, Colorado.  In 1954 she was a student at the College of St. Teresa, now known as Avila University.

In 1955 Sister Rose Mary taught grade school in Kansas City at Assumption and then returned to the secondary level of education in 1956 to teach at Bishop Baraga High School in Marquette, Michigan. Six years later, she taught for one year at Valle High School in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. She taught at Avila College in 1963 for the next 10 years.

She served her CSJ community  for the next 11 years as secretary at the St. Louis Provincialate.

At Gonzaga University, located in Spokane, Washington, Sister Rose Mary was a student in 1984. She then served  her last six years  in education at St. Joseph's Academy in St. Louis in registrar and as a teacher. Sister Rose Mary was the secretary at DuBourg House in 1991.

In 1992, she began over 20 years of service for her CSJ community.  Sister Rose Mary first served as a development staff worker at the St. Joseph Provincial House. In 1996, she was the receptionist (until 1999) and also served at Nazareth Living Center as the transportation coordinator until her retirement in 2003. From then on, she was a volunteer.

Since 2013, Sister Rose Mary Willett served in the ministry of prayer and presence at Nazareth Living Center.

Sister Rose Mary donated her body to science and a memorial service will be held January 6, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Nazareth Living Center Chapel, 2 Nazareth Lane, St. Louis, MO 63129.
