Sister Rose Mary Murphey, CSJ 1931-2016

May 10, 1931 - February 20, 2016

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Rose Mary Murphey, CSJ who passed away on Feb. 20 at Laclede Groves in  St. Louis.  She was 84 years of age.

Sister Rose Mary was born on May 10, 1931, in St. Louis to parents Samuel and Margaret (Barcroft) Murphey.  She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on September 15, 1950, and made her final profession on August 15, 1958.

She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Fontbonne College in St. Louis in 1962.

Sister Rose Mary began teaching elementary school in St. Louis at Nativity of Our Lord (1953-61) and St. Roch (1961-63).  She taught in Kansas City at Holy Rosary (1963-65).  Returning to St. Louis, she at Holy Guardian Angels (1965-66) and at St. Matthew (1966-70).

For the next 15 years she served at St. Joseph Home for Boys in St. Louis as a houseparent. In Kansas City for the next seven years, she served as medical records clerk at St. Joseph Hospital/Health Center. Sister Rose Mary came back to St. Louis to stay and was a participant at Emmaus Community from 1992 to 1994.  

In service for her CSJ community for the next nine years, Sister Rose Mary was a receptionist at Nazareth Living Center from 1994 to 2003 and then was a hospitality associate for four years at the St. Joseph Motherhouse.

Sister Rose Mary  retired in 2009 and volunteered. Since then she carried out her ministry of of prayer and presence at Nazareth Living Center.

A  funeral service is planned for Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Nazareth Living Center, 2 Nazareth Lane, St. Louis, Missouri. Visitation  is at 9:00 a.m. and Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery..
