Sister Patricia Ann Flavin 1932-2018

July 31, 1932 – January 27,  2018

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Patricia Ann Flavin, CSJ who passed away on January 27, 2018, at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles, Missouri. She was 85 years of age.

Sister Patricia Ann was born on July 31, 1932, in St. Louis, Missouri, to parents John and Helen (Cassidy) Flavin.  She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on September 15, 1950; was received as Sister Marie Goretti and made her final profession on August 15, 1958. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Fontbonne College in 1969.

In 1953, Sister Patricia began 66 years of religious life as a cottage/dorm supervisor. She served four years at St. Joseph Home for Girls in Kansas City, Missouri, and then two years at Home for the Friendless in Chicago, Illinois.  The following year, she served her CSJ community as a dietician at Nazareth Covent in St. Louis and from March to April of 1960 as a dining room worker at Fontbonne College.

For the next 44 years, Sister Patricia served in education. She began teaching in 1960 at St. Gregory Grade School in St. Louis. Moving to Keshena, Wisconsin, in 1964, Sister Patricia taught primary/intermediate education at St. Joseph Industrial School for two years.  Returning to St. Louis, she taught the next 38 years in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. She taught at Nativity of Our Lord Grade School in St. Louis from 1966 to 1976 and at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton/St. Robert Regional School Grade schools in St. Charles from 1976 to 2004. And in addition, beginning in 1990, Sister Patricia also served as the religious education director until at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton until 2004. At the age of 72, Sister Patricia retired from education, but served her CSJ community as a driver for the Senior Ministry Office. 

Hearing the call to serve the dear neighbor, Sister Patricia trained at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Peters, Missouri, as a clinical pastoral minister in 2005 and served there from 2005 to 2009. The following eight years, she served as chaplain at the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes St. Peters in St. Peters. 

Sister Patricia retired in 2017.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and funeral Mass will be Wednesday, January 31 at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2 Seton Court, St. Charles, MO 63303.
