Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet | Nora Eftink Obituary

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Nora Eftink, CSJ (S. Mary Raymond) who passed away of congestive heart failure on Oct. 22 at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis. She was 83 years old.

S. Nora was born on May 7, 1929, to parents John H. and Mary Josephine (Glasstetter) Eftink in Portageville, Mo. On February 11, 1950, S. Nora entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. She made her final profession on August 15, 1957.

S. Nora’s ministry was in food production management. She began as a dining room manager at Fontbonne College in St. Louis in 1952. She moved to Kansas City a year later and worked as a kitchen assistant at St. Joseph Hospital. Back in St. Louis in 1956, she studied for two years at St. Joseph’s Academy before completing an internship at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1958.

She returned to St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City in 1959 as food production manager. She then continued on in the same position at the St. Joseph Provincial House (1963-1975) and the St. Joseph Carondelet Child Center (1975-1986), both in St. Louis. In 1986, she went on to serve as a dietary aide at Nazareth Living Center, a position she held for the next 22 years.

S. Nora retired in 2008 to the Jeanne Fontbonne Community. She moved to NLC in 2011, ministering in prayer and witness.

A Mass of the Resurrection was held Oct. 25 at the Nazareth Living Center Chapel. She is buried at Resurrection Cemetery.
